Nutrition

At Ekoto we always prefer whole foods. Food as it can be found in nature has a great balance in nutrients and supplies more micro nutrients than extracted food. However, for those moments you want to use extracted or refined products, we do our utter best to produce the best quality products, like this flaxseed oil that we grow onsite at the Ekoto farm.

There is no reference intake for omega 3 fatty acid (the most needed omega acid), however the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) says that 250mg of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of heart disease (Source: EFSA). This means that less than 1 gram of oil is enough to get this daily intake of omega-3. With just a few drops of oil added to your daily meals, you are set!

Sustainability

The flax seed is grown just metres from Ekoto's warehouse, where all orders are shipped straight to you! So, the impact of transport is minimised. The production itself also has a limited impact. Linseed is rarely produced in western Europe and is a great addition to our landscapes. Of course the blue-purple colored flowers make it a beautiful image, but also for pollinators linseed gives an abundance of food. Every morning the plant opens up new flowers, with that freshly new nectar is available for bees and pollinators alike. The farm is in transition to organic, meaning that no artificial chemicals are used to grow this superfood! This is good for the bees and good for you!

Producer

Ekoto wants to make our supply chains better! By farming ourselves and doing research to better cultivation practices and more vital crops, we want to help our partner producers with this challenging transition whilst offering a healthy revenue model.

Ekoto grows its crops in a stripcropping system. Long lanes of 3 or 6 metres make up the landscape. This means taht every few metres another crop can be found. This makes life for insects and wildlife a lot easier. Food and habitat for a large variety of life can be found. The larger the variety the more resilient nature is. Pests and diseases can therefore not develop so easily. If in any case it would develop, it would still not be able to spread as the hosting crop is many lanes further down the field. Though this sounds a little complex, it means very simply that spraying pesticides is no longer needed! Better for wildlife as well as for our own health! Let's be honest... who would want to eat food that has been sprayed with artificial chemicals?

Let's change food for the better!
